Bed Time Extension

We have moved Henry's bedtime to 7:15. This is a big deal because Henry is such an early to bed, early to rise kid. When he was an infant, I always put him in his crib when he fell asleep in the evening after 6:00pm. If he woke up, I would nurse him in his room and put him back to sleep. If he got up before 5am, I would nurse him, put him back in his crib but if it were after 5am, it was fair game to get up and going for the day. I am not sure if I trained him to be an early to bed, early to rise child but right around 8 months, he would go to bed at 6:30 pretty regularly. It wasn't until he was around a year old that he stayed up until 7:00. Even then and now, if it is near bed time and he is cranky, we put him to bed early, and he goes right to sleep.

Recently, however, he is eating later because he hasn't been hungry until 6:00 vs. 5:30 and takes his bath a little later as well. So, we have been waiting until 7:15 to put him down. If he is in a really great mood, we will put him to bed a little later than that but generally 7:15 is when he becomes a cranky pants. When we put him down, he plays in his crib for 20-30 minutes before going to sleep but generally it hasn't been a fight. He doesn't get up until around 6:30-7:00 in the morning so we have time to get ready and then get him ready.

A delayed bed time is just another sign my little dude is becoming a big dude. I do look forward to him staying up a little later so that we can do other things in the evening vs. just coming home, feeding him, bathing him and putting him to bed. We get to spend more time with him and that makes me happy and hopefully he is happy as well. :)

We put the kids to bed early here too. We have an early start each morning so they are in bed by 6:30 every night. We recently decided that after Logan is used to being back in school (probably by his birthday at the end of September) that we'll start letting him stay up until 7. But the rule will be that he has to be in his bed, reading. WE got him a clip on lamp because he's in a loft bed, and he's excited. But right now, he's tired from being back in school so it'll have to wait.

We're thinking of moving Tyler's to 9! I know, kind of late, but it's not worth the fight. He doesn't seem tired until then. It used to be 8:30 (because we worked) and then it went to 8 and now we're thinking of it going to 9. It's all over the place. Wait until he starts protesting bed and coming up with excuses as to why he shouldn't go!

Lydia has had a pretty early bed time too. It used to be by 7, but now we start the routine about 7:30ish and she's in bed by 8, alseep by 8:30ish. When she gets tired, there is no second wind. She just gets cranky and sometimes even goes into her room to try to get into bed!

Brynn is my night owl. she'd stay up as late as I let her but i make her go to bed by 8-8:30 and she's not always ready for bed. she is so much like her dad: doesn't required as much sleep as the rest of us.
